    I have known the Hamilton’s for over thirty years, having worked with all three generations at various performing arts venue’s in the West Palm Beach Florida area. When I first started in the entertainment business I must admit that I really never gave much thought to piano tuners. I just thought that they were people that breezed in, made a lot of annoying noise and then left, but, after watching this remarkable family, I came to realize that this was indeed a craft, and I dare say an art.   To have a family business that spans three generations is incredible in this day and age. Having a craft that is passed down from father to son speaks volumes about this family. They are some of the most dedicated people that I have known. Tuning is not a just a job, but seems to be a passion, and that passion has been nurtured and passed down from one generation to the next. Tobias is the third generation of the Hamilton’s that I have had the privilege to work with. He is our house tuner at the Duncan Theatre. There was never any hesitation on our part in hiring him to tune for us. I knew his grandfather, father and uncle (who was our original tuner until his untimely death) and knew that he had been trained by the best. I must say that Tobias has exceeded our expectations, he is a true craftsman, he genuinely cares for the piano that he is working on as if it were his own. He not only tunes, but, is constantly checking all parts of the instrument, and makes suggestions as to the maintenance and any repairs that may be needed.   Tobias has expanded the family business, he not only tunes, but, moves, rents, rebuilds and refinishes pianos in his large workshop. His staff includes former employees from Steinway, who share his love and enthusiasm for their craft.   Tobias is furthering the legacy of the Hamilton family. Tobias Hamilton has been tuning and maintaining my 9′ concert grand piano for the past five years. He is always on time, which is very important when you are on a production schedule, and accommodating when I call him with a last minute tuning request.   In addition to tunings, Mr. Hamilton recently restored the finish on the piano and adjusted the action of the keys.
